Lake Project Net

Benthic Barrier, Lake Holland RDA

target area This project will target a dense stand of variable milfoil in a small area on the windward side of Lake Holland near my lake front.

Although Lake Holland is a deep lake, and this side of the lake has steep contours, there are several feet of muck in the target area making that area appear shallow, especially in the late summer when the lake is low and the milfoil has been growing all summer and is choking the remaining water column.

Pockets of the lake trapped behind this mass are filled with a pea-soup algae, pic at left. The muck is deep here because this side gets most of the leaves and there is inflow from a culvert pipe that drains the road and hillside above.
